Fake It Until You Can't Make It
February 11-12, 2017
Faculty of Music, University of Toronto
Toronto, ON, Canada
Join the Canadian region of the Performing Arts Medicine Association at its winter meeting for a weekend of fascinating presentations, warm collegiality, dynamite performances and stimulating cross-disciplinary exchanges between researchers, health professionals and musicians, dancers and other performing artists. Located at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto, smack in the middle of the bustling Bloor Street Culture Corridor, the meeting will showcase presenters including eleven time Juno winning musician Phil Dwyer, Nancy Kadel MD, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in dancers and osteopath, (and former ballerina) Jennie Morton.
This year’s theme, Fake It Until You Can’t Make It looks at the pressure on performers to conceal their physical injuries and psychological stressors until they are at a critical point of no return. The more this is brought to light, the earlier they can seek treatment and the better the chances are of full recovery. Prominent performers will share their stories of health challenges concealed and revealed , and pioneers in the field of Performance Health will add their clinical and research wisdom.
This meeting is relevant to artists across the performance spectrum, as well as researchers, practitioners and specialists interested in the arts.
